2-alarm house fire extinguished in Waipio

Share

VIDEO: The Honolulu Fire Department extinguished a two-alarm house fire in Waipio Saturday. First responders were alerted to a fire on Polinahe Place at around 1 p.m.

While en route, firefighters said they observed a significant smoke column in the air and upgraded the incident to a second-alarm assignment.

Crews arrived shortly after, and HFD said they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the front and both sides of a two-story home. HFD said they began an aggressive offensive fire attack on the initial structure and used firefighting streams to protect nearby homes.

A search was conducted, and crews confirmed no one was in the home. Fire officials said a mayday was declared on the second floor for firefighters low on air and safely exited through a window using a ladder.
