30 displaced after fire at motel, New Orleans Fire Department says

Share

A fire at a Super 8 Motel on Chef Menteur Highway displaced 30 people Saturday evening, according to the New Orleans Fire Department.

Firefighters were called to the motel around 6:31 p.m. When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from a third-floor room. Because of the number of people staying at the motel, more crews were called in to help.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to that one room and stopped it from spreading to the rest of the building.

No injuries were reported. The American Red Cross was contacted to help those who were displaced. Officials say the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction.
