Fire demolishes South Peoria home, cause unknown

Share

VIDEO/PHOTOS: An early morning fire in South Peoria that led to a house being demolished remains under investigation. Battalion Chief Steve Rada of the Peoria Fire Department said firefighters were called to 2209 W. Humboldt Ave. on a report of a house on fire. When they arrived, they saw the 1 1/2-story house fully engulfed in flames.

Crews began a defensive attack on the fire, using several ladder trucks to pour water on it from above. After the bulk of the fire was knocked down, crews quickly searched the house for people.

No one was inside the vacant house. Due to the potential for the structure to collapse, firefighters used drones to further search the home and find any remaining fire.

An investigator was called to the scene but the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Once the fire is fully extinguished, the house will be demolished as it was a total loss. Damage was estimated at about $100,000.
