VIDEO/PHOTOS: A late-night fiery crash on the busy Kennedy Expressway Tuesday night left one person dead and others injured, with lanes shut down for hours as three cars went up in flames in a harrowing scene.

The crash, with as many as five cars involved, occurred about 10:24 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-90 at Natoma Avenue, the Illinois State Police said.

According to ISP, three vehicles went off the road and hit a light pole. Each of the vehicles then became engulfed in flames.

One driver was pronounced dead on the scene, police said, and other injuries were reported. Further details on the injuries weren’t immediately available.

Photos and video from the chaotic scene showed debris strewn across the expressway, with at least one car off the roadway in flames as crews worked to put the fire out. Smoke could be seen billowing into the air from other vehicles involved.

As the fires were snuffed, photos and video of the aftermath showed at least three charred and burnt vehicles. Local lanes near the crash were shut down for hours, reopening at 3:36 a.m. The circumstances surrounding what led up to the crash weren’t provided.
