Helen Fire burns hundreds of acres near Wagon Mound

A significant grass fire response is underway near Wagon Mound in Mora County. The fire has been named the Helen Fire and has burned about 300 acres on private land, according to the Mora County Sheriff’s Office. The New Mexico Forestry Division said no structures are threatened on Tuesday afternoon, March 3. The flames are south of State Road 120, which was closed west of Wagon Mound before reopening.

The state Forestry Division has crews responding. Details regarding the fire and its acre size are unknown. There has been zero containment reported in the response so far. The state road was shut down about five miles west of Wagon Mound, at mile marker 35. The roadway closure was confirmed via NMRoads.
