Honolulu: McCully tenants escape fire that destroyed building

Share

VIDEO: An early-morning fire destroyed a building that neighbors call notorious in McCully. A massive fire consumed a building on Pawaa Lane right off of Young Street and investigators are still trying to figure out what started the fire.

Nancy Aqribbah said she lives on the ground floor of the two-story building with her brother and his wife, who barely escaped. “It’s really scary,” she said. They were all asleep when the second floor went up in flames.

“I hear a lot of things it’s like pop, pop and then I start to run outside in the living room, I look outside in the window and I see the smoke and the burn is down already,” Aqribbah said. “I say ‘oh my gosh,’ and then I run and I go wake my brother and the wife.”
