Strong winds made containing a wildland fire off the interstate difficult on Monday. Firefighters responded to multiple grass fires around 8 a.m. Monday on the northern side of Interstate 90 near mile markers 330-331, according to statements from the Park County Rural Fire District #1 on Monday.
A containment line was established by 8:30 a.m. but high winds were continuing to make the situation challenging, according to the district.
“Crews were able to hold it along with protecting all structures,” reads a Monday statement from the district. “Based on evidence at scene and origin of start, cause is most likely from someone dragging chains or a vehicle mechanical issue. Size is estimated at 2-3 acres.”
Is it imperative over the next few days with these forecasted winds, that you use caution with burn permits and when using any machinery around vegetation. Even if there is snow around, it will burn. Grass and small fuels only take a few hours to dry especially with winds we have here.
