Custer County Fire responded to 285 incidents in 2025, with volunteer firefighters contributing thousands of hours in emergency response and related services, according to the department’s annual report.
The report, released this month, shows the department handled a wide range of calls throughout the year. Those included 79 wildland fires, 16 mutual aid calls, 11 structure fires and 39 motor vehicle accidents or traffic control assists. Firefighters also responded to eight carbon monoxide calls, 14 motor vehicle or equipment fires and four hazardous materials incidents involving fuel spills.
Additional responses included five haystack fires, 26 calls involving downed power lines or other safety hazards, 46 false alarms or smoke checks and five standby assignments for events. The department also conducted 13 prescribed fire operations and installed 18 residential smoke alarms.
