Students and staff at Murray High School were evacuated Friday morning after a fire was reported near the school. The fire was first reported just before 8:30 a.m. Because of the fire, classes were canceled for the remainder of the day, and students were sent home.
Murray High School posted an alert to families that read, “Parents, a fire was reported at the high school near the woodshop this morning. All students were evacuated to a nearby safe zone outside. School will be dismissed for the day. Parents can pick up their students at Hillcrest Jr. High where Murray PD is coordinating.”
Crews at the scene tell FOX 13 News that the fire started in a dust collection vent in the woodshop, and a sprinkler managed to contain the blaze to the area. However, smoke did fill parts of the school, leading to the evacuations.
