VIDEO: A homeowner and a dog are safe after a massive fire ripped through a Gold Canyon home Tuesday night. Superstition Fire and Medical firefighters were called out to the area of Gold Canyon Drive and Golden Rim Circle around 6:30 p.m.
The call originally came in as a garage fire, but flames quickly spread to the second floor and throughout the home. Due to heavy flames and structural concerns, crews were forced to transition to a defensive attack to fight the fire.
It was quickly upgraded to a first alarm because the home was fully engulfed in flames, prompting a larger response from firefighters. Mesa and Queen Creek firefighters were called to assist Superstition Fire. A spokesperson with Superstition Fire said part of the roof collapsed about a minute after firefighters got out of the home. Luckily, no firefighters were injured.
