Pipe bomb turned in to Pueblo fire station

Share

The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) has confirmed that a pipe bomb was found in the alley near Fire Station #1 on Tuesday, Jan. 13.

PPD initially reported via a Facebook post around noon on Tuesday that the fire station requested assistance from the department after a suspicious package was turned in to them.

According to a Pueblo police official, a man found “what appeared to be a pipe bomb” in the alley near the fire station close to downtown Pueblo. He reportedly picked the suspicious item up and brought it to the entrance, where the Fire Department called for police assistance.

The man was subsequently interviewed by PPD, and Pueblo’s Real Time Crime Center cameras and surveillance of the fire station corroborated that the man who turned the package in was not who originally placed it in the alley amongst garbage. He has since been released from police custody.

PPD stated that a bomb tech has confirmed that this was a pipe bomb. Police are now searching for a primary suspect.
