Hawaii Island fire station receives $14M for repairs

Share

VIDEO: The Department of Defense has awarded $14 million to repair a federal fire station on Hawai‘i Island.

U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz announced the award, saying the funds will be used to renovate the fire station at Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA).

Although it primarily serves PTA, the fire department can respond to calls within 25 miles and, under mutual-aid agreements, islandwide.

“This funding will help upgrade fire station facilities at PTA so firefighters can better respond to emergencies in the area, fight fires more effectively, and help save lives and protect communities across Hawai‘i Island,” said Schatz.

The funding will be used to repair architectural and structural elements of PTA Fire Station Building 390, restoring the station to full operational capacity.
