Greenhouse, 565 acres burned in Laramie County grass fire

Share

A greenhouse was the sole structure lost in a grass fire that spread to over 500 acres Wednesday night. According to a release from the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, the cause of the burn is still under investigation.

The fire burned 565 acres and, aided by strong western winds, brushed up against the Winchester Hills subdivision in south Cheyenne before first responders could get it under control. It would take only around two hours from when the fire was first reported, at 4:25 p.m., for the blaze to be contained.

After being evacuated to South High School, area residents were able to return to their home at around 8:30 p.m., the release stated. Still, firefighters remained in the area overnight to extinguish remnant hot spots.

“We want to thank all the people and agencies who stepped up to help with this situation,” the release stated. “It was an incredible example of teamwork that should make us all proud to be citizens of Laramie County.”
