VIDEO: Firefighters are battling a new brush fire northeast of Phoenix in the Tonto National Forest. The Horseshoe Fire broke out Thursday near the west side of the Verde River, south of Horseshoe Lake.
Forest officials say the fire has grown to about 300 acres and is spreading moderately to quickly, with winds around 10 mph.
The U.S. Forest Service says multiple crews are battling the flames from the air. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is also assisting.
Firefighters are focusing on protecting multiple buildings in the area that include K Ranch, Horseshoe Dam, utility infrastructure and natural resources. No evacuation or pre-evacuation warnings have been issued. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
