One person was hospitalized, and up to 50 people displaced, as a result of an apartment fire near Newark Thursday afternoon. Aetna firefighters responded to the blaze on Fairway Road at the Hunter Crossing Apartments at 3:43 p.m. on Thursday.

Fire was showing from the top level of the three-story apartment building, as firefighters responded to see people still leaving the building. It took 45 minutes to get the fire under control, with a 32-year-old woman being hospitalized with smoke inhalation.

The American Red Cross was called in to help find emergency shelter for up to 50 people. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
