Firefighters extinguish recycling yard fire in Kapolei

VIDEO: On Thursday, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 1:22 a.m. for a fire at a recycling yard in Kapolei. Nine resource units, staffed with 34 personnel, initially responded to the fire on Hanua St.

The first unit arrived at 1:28 a.m. to confirm that smoke and flames were emanating from a pile of recycling cars in an open area.

The fire attack consisted of large fire streams applied from aerial apparatus while onsite excavators removed material to expose the seat of the fire. Firefighters commenced with a defensive fire attack to protect exposures and stop fire spread.

All employees were accounted for. The fire was under control at 2:24 a.m and fully extinguished at 3:35 a.m. All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries reported.
