Assistant Chief Tom Good with the Fayetteville Fire Department is retiring after 27 years of service. Throughout his years with the Fayetteville Fire Department, he held numerous roles, including driver/operator, captain, battalion chief and assistant chief, according to a social media post.
In 1994, his career in fire service started with the Hiwasse Volunteer Fire Department in Benton County, where he served as the Fire Chief until 1999. He also held an Adjunct Instructor position with the Arkansas Fire Academy from 1996 until 2003.
His career with the Fayetteville Fire Department started on May 18, 1998, as a firefighter at Station 1. In September of 2004, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and was one of the first companies to work out of Station 7.
Later in his career, he was promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief, where he helped oversee the operations of the department’s Hazardous Materials Response Team. Chief Good was promoted to Assistant Chief over Field Operations on July 6, 2015, and later moved to the support role in July 2020.
A few of Chief Good’s awards throughout his years of service include the Distinguished Service Award in 2007, Fire Company of the Year in 2008 and 2009, and Firefighter of the Year in 2009.
