Share

A 22-year-old woman died after a collision involving a moped and another vehicle occurred on Houghtailing St. in the Kalihi area on Wednesday night.

The collision occurred at approximately 7:12 p.m. when a 22-year-old woman on a moped was driving southbound on Houghtailing St. when she attempted to execute a left onto Olomea St. Police believe she was driving at a high speed at the time.

As the 22-year-old woman attempted to make a left, she collided with a 72-year-old driver who was traveling northbound on Houghtailing St. As a result of the collision, the 22-year-old woman was taken by the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in critical condition. She was later confirmed to have died from her injuries.

Police reported that the 22-year-old woman was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. The 72-year-old man remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the incident. At this time, police believe that speed appears to be a contributing factor in this collision. However, it’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors.
