2 firefighters hurt in large Meyers house fire spotted by ski area wildfire camera

Two firefighters were injured responding to a house fire in Meyers Friday morning, according to Lake Valley Fire District.

Lake Valley Fire District crews along with South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and CHP – South Lake Tahoe personnel responded to a fire on Ulmeca St. in Meyers around 1:45 a.m. on Friday.

On arrival, crews found a large multi-story residential building with a heavy amount of smoke and fire coming from the second floor. Authorities say the fire was so large that the Alert California Wildfire camera located at Heavenly Ski Area was alerted to it.

The home was undergoing renovation and sustained major damage. Two firefighters were injured fighting the fire and were taken to the hospital for evaluation. One person was staying in the home at the time of the fire but was able to escape without injury. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
